Key areas of research:
- Application of the latest technology to develop applications and products that benefits society.
- Societal acceptance of contemporary developments in the life and physical sciences including biotechnology, biomedicine, synthetic biology, nanotechnology and information and communication technology (ICT).
- Bioethics – Cross-cultural perspectives on the ethical aspects of contemporary developments in the life sciences, biotechnology and biomedicine, the role of bioethics in regulating contemporary developments in the life sciences, biotechnology, biomedicine, synthetic biology and nanotechnology.
- Environmental values and ethics – including environmental values and ethics in relation with sustainable development, environmental education, and education for sustainable development.

includes studies on social and ethical impacts of ICT
- Engineering ethics - includes the study of moral issues and professionalism among individuals and organizations involved in engineering
- Environmental philosophy – including environmental strands of thoughts from religions, beliefs, and contemporary environmental thoughts.
- Biotechnology and health education – public awareness, curriculum design, module development in relation with adult self-directed learning, health education and information/communication.
- Communication on contemporary issues in the life sciences, biotechnology, biomedicine, synthetic biology and nanotechnology.
- Biosecurity, bioterrorism, biological warfare, biosafety - sustainable governance of development in the life sciences, biotechnology, biomedicine, synthetic biology and nanotechnology, intellectual property issues, risk assessments and public involvement in policy and decision making.
- Bioeconomy – technology diffusion and socio-economic impact and prospects of biosciences, biotechnology, biomedicine, synthetic biology and nanotechnology.
- The impact of biosciences on gender, kinship and family forms - implications of contemporary developments in the life sciences, biotechnology, biomedicine, synthetic biology and nanotechnology on gender and inequalities in different social contexts.
